SONOS is the first composition created in the context of the research projects Sounds of Thought I and II. It is composed for 20 loudspeakers whose positions map those of the electrodes arranged on the subject's head for EEG data acquisition.
"It all begins with calm, isolated, flashing noise artefacts that acoustically whirl freely around in a red container, then rise sharply to a grand crescendo and are suddenly replaced by a large herd of sinusoidal interfering signals..."
Rhythmic eye-blinking and circular jaw movements are just two examples of elements and fantasies that have been acoustically translated into the composition SONOS, which exclusively uses sonified brainwaves as a base. It is an effort to ignore any clinical aspects and instead focus on the EEG as an artistic interface and musical instrument. The data are transformed into musical elements or playful motifs, and the composer assumes the role of the conductor of the brain orchestra.
